From November through to February 2010, thirteen artists from the SevernValeArtTrail will be displaying their work in a series of exhibitions at the £1.5million library as part of the CreYate initiative, supported by South Gloucestershire Council and the Big Lottery Fund. Hundreds of people enjoyed this year's Severn Vale Art Trail which showcased the work of local artists in their homes, studios and in ThornburyTown Hall.
The exhibitions will include jewellery, paintings, ceramics, photography, textiles and stained glass with all of the displayed artwork for sale.
Cllr Heather Goddard, executive member for communities, said: "We are delighted to showcase such amazing local talent in what is one of the district's most modern libraries. It gives us the opportunity to support local professional artists and to offer the public a chance to enjoy and even purchase their work."
In the run up to Christmas there are a couple of great opportunities to purchase some unique, locally crafted gifts:
On 28 and 29 November, Yate based artist Tina Free will display a selection of her jewellery. Tina designs and creates jewellery using silver, gold, glass and semi precious stones. Her work currently sells at many galleries including Tate Modern, Tate Britain and the National Gallery.
On 5 and 6 December, there will be pottery and ceramics from the Potters collective which represents over 25 independent professional potters and ceramic artists including local artist Maggie White. Potters offer items including garden pots, ornaments, water features, sculptures, clocks, mirrors, wall decorations, lamps, vases and ranges of tableware at very competitive prices.
