A new initiative launched earlier this year in South Gloucestershire which aims to help people over 50 who are having problems finding work, changing direction or are thinking of starting up their own business has proved to be so successful that it is to be extended.

The second Red Door @50+ Careers Workshop is to be run again in association with South Gloucestershire Council and will take place in the Salvation Army Hall in Staple Hill Town Centre on Tuesday 17 July between 10am and 2pm.

Red Door Director Linda Banister said: "The business environment has not changed since the success of our first workshop.

"The UK's business confidence is still low and still some companies large and small are struggling to make ends meet and to make matters worse the age at which we can expect to receive a state pension is increasing all the time.

"Our first workshop in April at The Armadillo Centre in Yate proved to be so successful that we were oversubscribed.''

"We have decided to repeat it - but this time in Staple Hill, though it is open to all residents in South Gloucestershire. I am sure it will be just as popular.''

Red Door Director Tracy Francksen said: "The workshop is free and is designed to help those who are looking for work in the ‘midlife job market' whether they are looking for another job, starting their own business or simply needing their confidence rebuilt. We had some great feedback from our first workshop and hope to repeat the same again.

"This is beginning to look like a regular event: it is friendly and locally based, gives hands on advice and we are of a similar age to those we hope to help."

Red Door Associate Lesley Ann Gittings: a former TV producer and now writer and lecturer, identified a gap in the market for ‘greater support' for mature jobseekers.

Lesley said: "Unless you have support from your local Job Centre no one else seems to be offering any guidance on how to transfer hard earned skills or develop new ones that are more marketable in the present climate - until now that is. Red Door fills this gap."

The workshop is designed to provide individual help for people with the next steps to finding rewarding work and includes tips for CV writing, confidence building, interview help and general support.

Anyone wishing to attend can request an application form by email from info@reddoorcoachingandtraining.co.uk or by telephoning 01454 881954. All places must be booked and confirmed by Red Door in advance.
