REBELS WITH A CAUSE
Slough Town 3 - 2 Biggleswade Town
Report by Mits your way day reporter
Slough Town affectionately known as the Rebels by their noisy following had two reasons to win this game.
1. It would guarantee them a play-off place.
2. The only club that the Waders have not taken points from this season.
On a dusty dry pitch both teams struggled to make an impact. Reynolds went close with a power header from a corner and Steve Gentle back from injury fired tamely at the keeper when through on goal. Much against the run of play Slough took the lead after 18 minutes when Swift teed up the ball to beat Dean Bull with a fierce shot down low at the post. A shocked Waders side now needed to roll the sleeves up and take the upper hand in a match they were more than capable of winning. 40 minutes in and a long throw from Radcliffe found Stuart Lochhead unmarked in the box and his firmly hit shot beat the Slough keeper. Still unsettled Slough gave away a free kick on the edge of their box. James Freshwater taking the kick which was unstoppable into the top corner. To see this goal check out the Slough Town website. Slough were down hearted at half time conceding 2 goals in as many minutes.
On the re-start Biggleswade looked to increase the lead and opportunities fell to Gentle, Hunt , Fuller and Freshwater with most of the play in the Slough half. However, it was Slough who scored with Logie shooting through a crowd of players to level the score on 72 minutes. With Donnelly on for Steve Gentle and Paul Barnes making a welcome comeback on for Freshwater the Waders looked for the elusive winning goal. The more determined rebels had the last shout in the dying minutes when Burnell got his foot to a cross to deflect the ball into the net. Final score 3-2.
Stuart LochheadManager Chris Nunn said after the game " the better team lost on this occasion. We had chances but did not take them". Agreed we were the better team but Slough needed and wanted the win more. Final league game Monday and we will know who we will be up against in the play-offs. Oh!! Ok then at this moment if all stays the same we are away to Daventry on Thursday but don't bet on it. The fat lady has not started singing yet.
Man of the Match: Stuart Lochhead.
Team: D Bull, P Gatti, C Radcliffe, M Webster, P Reynolds, S Smith, J Freshwater (P Barnes), S Lochhead,
S Gentle (B Donnelly), H Hunt, A Fuller
