Tips on Decorating the Perfect Christmas Tree

- 1) Plan where you a putting your tree before you buy it, or get it out of the loft. You want it to be somewhere that is easily accessible to decorate and place presents underneath. Do not place it close to a fire or somewhere that is very busy in the house where it might get knocked over. Make the tree the focal point of the room. You will also need to consider the power supply for the lights so try and place it close to a plug socket.
- 2) The first stage of decorating a tree is the lights. The location of the tree will help determine how you place the lights. If the tree is in a corner then the lights should be prominent on the front and have only a few at the back, there is no point placing a lot of lights at the back if they are not going to be seen! Start placing the lights from the inside of the tree and work your way out, trying to create an even spread of lights. The best way to do this is to start from the top of your tree and work your way down. At this point plug the lights in; this will help you to see how well the lights are arranged. If they need altering turn them off and adjust accordingly.
- 3) The next stage is hanging the ornaments. Get all the children involved in this part. During the holiday season they have probably made decorations at school and they will be eager to place them on the tree. Start with the largest ornaments and hang them on the tree, focusing on the part of the tree which will be seen the most. Once you have placed the larger ornaments on the tree begin to fill in the gaps with the smaller ones. Do not just hang the ornaments on the ends of the branches, place them on the inside branches to so that you're not left with dark gaps inside.
- 4) Once the ornaments have been hung on the tree you can then add beads or garlands. Drape the beads diagonally on the end of the branches; trying to create a weaving effect from the top of the tree to the bottom.
