Student sets sights on Mount Kilimanjaro
Bedford College student Alex JoslingBedford College student Alex Josling sets himself high standards and so far none higher than the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free standing volcano in the world rising to 5,895 metres.
Alex will climb Kilimanjaro over 7 days in September in a fundraising challenge raising money for Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust. Alex explained:
"I am taking on the challenge of Kilimanjaro in memory of my amazing grandmother Patricia Burchill who sadly died of cervical cancer, aged 55 years, when I was a young boy. Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust is a charity that is very dear to my heart, providing much needed support to women and their families when they really need it.
"My family and friends have given me incredible support and encouragement every step of the way in a bid to raise more than £3,400 for this special charity and I'm now asking everyone to dig deep and make sure that as much money is raised as possible. It's easy - all you do is follow the links on www.justgiving.com/alex-josling."
In training for Mount Kilimanjaro, Alex runs 10k 4 or 5 days a week, with hill training on 1 day, followed by multi-gym work outs. He has also completed the 100 mile West Highlands Way Walk to give him a realistic idea of the challenge that lies ahead.
Alex is in his final year studying HNC Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Bedford College. He joined the course as an apprentice at Igranic Control Systems in Bedford and plans to continue his studies at HND or degree level.
Alex's charity fundraising challenge was recognised at the recent Young People of the Year awards.
