Microsoft employees invest their time in helping the Amersham Road Community

Amersham Road Youth and Community Centre benefitted from the painting and decorating skills of a team of Microsoft employees for a day as part of Microsoft's volunteering in the community programme.
The new colour scheme at the centre was chosen by the young people that use the Reading Borough Council-run Youth and Community centre. Team challenges are a practical task undertaken by a team of employees who are responding to a need in the community. The project was organised through Connect Reading the business community partnership for Reading. Paul Shakespear, Microsoft volunteer said: "We were really pleased to be able to assist the Amersham Road Project through painting last Friday (11/07/08). Our team of Technical Account Managers wanted to combine a team building exercise with some community assistance, and this project was a wonderful way to do just that. We are fortunate that Microsoft was able to support us by providing time off work to complete the painting of the rooms and hallways. As a team, it was a great experience to be able to work together on something useful outside of the work environment and the team is closer as a result. Finding out about the activities of the Amersham Road Project and the difficulties faced by the local community was, for me, a real learning experience".
Clare Wright, Connect Reading comments "This is a really great project for the Microsoft volunteers to get involved in, there is some really good work happening at the youth centre and helping in this way means that the centre can direct all its funds into the activities they run."
