The council's Road Safety Officer is offered young people in Reading the chance of a FREE driver education programme called 'Motorwise'.
Motorwise is a one-day programme developed and delivered by The Berkshire Motorwise Project. It aims to raise awareness of road safety issues and enable young drivers to make informed decisions when buying and driving a car.
Any person aged 15 to 19, who is looking towards or already learning to drive, was welcome to attend. The course took place at Reading School, in Erleigh Road, Reading, Friday, October 31.
Motorwise is a project led by young people and aims to reduce the number of road traffic related incidents involving young
people.
Liz Aldred, the Council's Road Safety Education Officer, said: "One in four young drivers experience some sort of traffic related incident during their first two years of driving. This is why road-user education programmes like Motorwise are so important for young people."
"Motorwise aims to reduce this number by raising the awareness of all young drivers. Motor vehicles are like weapons; in the wrong hands they ruin lives."
The programme deals with road safety, using video footage and mock theory tests.
They received basic first aid training and hear the real-life testimony of a Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service fire fighter on what it is like at the scene of an accident.
All participants had chance to drive a dual-controlled vehicle on site, away from public roads.
