BE SAVVY - NATIONAL CONSUMER WEEK 17-21 NOVEMBER
| Published: 12th November 2008 21:15 |
BE A SAVVY SHOPPER this Christmas and go along to one of Trading Standards four consumer advice road shows aimed at avoiding dodgy deals over the festive season. The advice sessions come as part of National Consumer Week
(17-21 November) an annual event, organised by the , that raises awareness of consumer rights. This year activities will focus on how to avoid Christmas shopping pitfalls like being stuck with faulty or shoddy goods - but no consumer topic is off limits.
Margaret Dewar, Council Cabinet member for Community Services, said: "The increasing cost of living means it is much harder for us all to afford Christmas. The temptation to take out additional credit or bag a bargain is much greater. None of us want to end up with credit we cannot afford or useless, even dangerous, goods.
"We want to make sure that shoppers avoid buying unsafe goods, understand any credit agreements they sign up for and know their rights when returning unwanted or faulty goods."
Do you know your way around buying a digital television, understand what your credit is costing you or even how to choose a safe toy. Find out more about your consumer rights and what dangers could be lurking under your Christmas tree at one of these Buckinghamshire Trading Standards advice sessions:
Sainsburys, Chesham - Mon 17 November
Sainsburys, Taplow - Tue 18 November
Friars Square, Aylesbury - Wed 19 November Eden Centre, Wycombe - Fri 21 November
