Buckinghamshire County Council has won an Innovation Award for the brand new . The award is given by passenger transport telematics group INFORM and was sponsored at INFORM's 12th Annual conference in Bristol. The INFORM Innovation Award recognises the contribution of local authorities and their staff in developing innovative solutions to improve the passenger transport experience in their area.
Located in the town centre outside the bus station, the Travel Information Centre aims to give the public easy access to public transport information and increase awareness about what services are available. It consists of screens displaying nextBus - real time information, journey planners with printers and a wide variety of printed travel information. It'll also be manned during office hours, creating a one-stop information point for all forms of transportation.
Paul Goodwin of the public transport information and infrastructure team at Buckinghamshire County Council said ‘we are very pleased to receive this award. A lot of hard work was done by my colleagues to make this happen. I am sure this information centre will help increase the quality and availability of information to many people we have been unable to reach before and hopefully get more people onto public transport'.
The Information Centre forms part of the £18.5m public transport hub funded mainly by the Community Infrastructure Fund. Included in this was the refurbishment of Aylesbury bus station, which has been transformed with high-tech information systems similar to those found in airports. Passengers will now always know when their bus is due and will have a clean and welcoming environment to wait for it.
