The Meningitis Trust is appealing for runners to join its All Stars Team at the BUPA Great South Run this year. The event takes place on October 25 and is an ideal challenge. Whether you are an experienced runner or a first-timer - this is the race for you!
Runners will start outside the Blue Reef Aquarium in Southsea, Portsmouth. The 10-mile course will take them past many historic landmarks such as HMS Victory, finishing at the Esplanade, just east of the Pyramid Centre. Runners will be encouraged to keep going with bands playing live music throughout the course creating a wonderful carnival vibe.
"We are hoping that both experienced and first-time runners will join our team," says David Light, Event Organiser. "The Great South is slightly shorter than a half-marathon at 10 miles and is over flat ground, so is an ideal event if this is your first road run.
"There is a great festival atmosphere at this event. By participating in one of our Great Runs you will experience a great sense of achievement, as well as helping thousands of families whose lives have been devastated by meningitis."
The Meningitis Trust is dedicated to helping rebuild lives shattered by meningitis. Its range of support services offer families and individuals a lifeline at a time when they need it most. However, with no government funding, the Trust relies on voluntary donations to continue its work.
The Meningitis Trust provides its team members with a personalised t-shirt, as well a refreshment tent on the day and a free sports massage. Those who want to join the team are simply asked to pledge to raise minimum sponsorship of £200 for the Trust and in return will receive a fundraising pack with training and dietary tips and sponsorship forms.
To take part in the BUPA Great South Run and secure one of the guaranteed places, participants all we need is £34 registration fee and a pledge to raise the minimum sponsorship.
