As the time for GCSE and A level results draws near, young people and parents in Milton Keynes may be wondering who they can turn to if exam results are not quite as expected.
Connexions:MK, Milton Keynes Council's advice and support service for young people, offers some top tips:
- Think carefully before deciding on re-takes to assess whether special circumstances stopped you doing your best. Talk to your teachers to see if it's worth another try.
- If it's ‘A' level results you've been waiting for and you've applied to university, check if they will still accept you but if you're turned down, UCAS (www.ucas.co.uk) automatically registers you for clearing.
- Don't rush into any decision - deciding what to do following unexpected exam results isn't always easy but it's important to keep calm and make sure you talk though the options with family, teachers and/or a Connexions:MK Personal Adviser.
Connexions:MK Personal Adviser, Jan Bailey, explains, "There are many options for young people to consider at this stage, including further education, higher education, the world of work, apprenticeships, taking a Gap Year or volunteering. Whether your exam results are higher or lower than expected, or if you do not yet have final plans, at Connexions we can offer advice and information on what to do next."
For free, impartial advice young people can:
- chat privately online with a Connexions:MK Personal Adviser (PA) at the Virtual Connexions Centre at www.mysaymk.com until midnight on exam results days
- talk to their Connexions PA at school and college (on exam results days and during term time)
- or drop into or call the local Connexions:MK Centre in Milton Keynes (open 6 days a week, all year round):
