Inviting Ideas on Libraries in Milton Keynes
| Published: 6th June 2011 11:16 |
Milton Keynes residents are being invited to play their part in the re-shaping of library services across the city.
Milton Keynes Council is facing a large reduction in funding and the Library Service needs to find ways of changing the way it currently works to meet this reduction.
During 2011, the council will be producing a plan for the future of libraries. This will involve making savings and efficiencies within the service in the coming years. Local people are being invited to contribute their ideas to inform a report which will go to Cabinet later this year.
There are a number of ways in which people are being asked to give their ideas for the future, suggest efficiencies which could be made to provide a better library service with fewer resources.
These are:
- Be an active member of a special Citizens' Review Group. Fill in the online questionnaire at www.milton-keynes.gov.uk/library_services/DisplayArticle.asp?ID=77912. Print off a copy of the questionnaire or pick up a copy from the library.
- Sign up to Twitter and Tweet us - www.twitter.com/MKLibraries.
- Sign up to Facebook and post your comment - www.facebook.com/MiltonKeynesLibraries.
- Come and talk to us at our mobile library roadshow at Midsummer Place Shopping Centre on Saturday 18 June between 9 am and 5 pm.
The Citizen's Review will be made up of volunteers from across the borough representing:
- Users and non-users
- Students and learners
- Writers, readers and researchers
The group will be asked to participate in a series of workshops in June and July which will form an important part of the Library Review, as well as providing a stimulating and rewarding experience for all those involved.
Our criteria for selecting people for this group is as follows:
- A specialist interest, approach and/or skill.
- A commitment to having borough-wide interests.
- A commitment to attending each workshop/meeting.
- A desire to make a difference and make a contribution.
- Age 17 years or above.
Members of this group will need to commit to three half days of their time in June/July 2011 to contribute to an exciting, stimulating and rewarding workshop programme. You will be involved in presentations, discussions and debates. Council staff will be there to support the group and give you all the information you need to come up with feasible ideas.
