Walking with Giants in Milton Keynes

Published: 20th July 2012 06:46

If you go down to the Hub on Sunday 22nd July, you'll be sure of a BIG surprise, because that's the day the Giants are gathering for a big community parade in Milton Keynes.

The MK Festival Fringe presents Walking with Giants, produced in association with award winning local arts group, Festive Road.

Don't miss this spectacular procession made up of fantastic Giant figures and structures, Sporting icons, Dragons, Mythical creatures and Famous people.

Some of these huge puppets have actually been created by local schools and organisations like; Great Linford Primary, Wyvern Primary, a group from Yardley Hastings village and Age UK, who have all made Giants for the BIG day.

And who better to greet the Giants as they arrive in the Theatre District, yes the Mayor of Milton Keynes herself will be there among the Giants.

There'll also be samba and street bands, including the Wolverton based group, Lobo Tren, also the London based Brazilian Maracutu band, Maracatudo Mafua and even a young people's stilt group from Norwich, the Hi-Jacks!

But it's not too late to get involved behind the scenes. Festive Road are running FREE Giant making workshops in the Theatre District as part of the MK Festival Fringe from 10am until 4pm on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th July. And if music is more your thing, there are also FREE Samba sessions on 8th, 15th and 21st July at Centric MK, Linford Wood.

So come and join in. The parade will start from Hub:MK at 12noon. You can walk with the Giants along Midsummer Boulevard through Milton Keynes and up to the Theatre district where we aim to finish at around 1pm.

Simon Tipping of Festive Road said; "The aim on the day is to have 10 or more Giants from Milton Keynes, London and the South East with a Samba band of up to 150 local people and around 350 masqueraders and their families. It is hoped that following the success of this first event, the parade will become an annual or bi-annual event for Milton Keynes."

Walking with Giants has been funded by Milton Keynes Community Foundation, Arts Council and MK Council.
