Wirral pupils design their future with top international architect

Art and design students from Hilbre High School Humanities College in West Kirby, Wirral, are making sure they have a say in shaping their future.

The Year 10 GSCE pupils are teaming up with esteemed international architect Christophe Egret and celebrity chef, Paul Askew, to create a seafront model of how they envisage their waterside location looking in the future and, while they are at it... cook a gourmet meal to complement their newly developed fine-living environment.

The event, which is themed ‘My town...' was organised by former teacher, Sarah Beer, from Carpenter Investments, a development company who have been chosen by Wirral Council to develop a new sailing school and hotel along the seafront.

Sarah explained: "Carpenter Investments are currently undertaking a consultation exercise with West Kirby residents with regards to the planned waterfront development and as part of that we feel it is vital that we include the younger people in the town in the decision making process.

"They do not have any public voice as such and we want to encourage them to help shape their local environment for the future. After all, they are the potential future residents of West Kirby".

Deputy Head at Hilbre High School, Sally Beevers, said she was delighted that her students were involved in this community-based project.
She said: "It is a fantastic opportunity for students to broaden their horizons and have the opportunity to contribute to their own community.
"It will help develop our students into wider-thinking citizens with a sense of community aspiration."

Students from Hilbre High School will be at West Kirby Sailing Club from 9am to 4pm next Tuesday May 6th.
