Louis Smith 2012Huntingdon Gymnastic Club today announced its plans to commemorate an historic visit of the Olympic Torch to the Town and the home of one of the most successful Clubs in Great Britain. The celebrations will begin on the evening of Saturday 7th July with an opportunity to 'Dine with Olympians,' at an Awards Dinner to be held at Wood Green Conference Centre in Godmanchester.
The following morning will see the Torch coming past the gym at around 0825, with the club preparing a range of festivities including an Olympic breakfast, autograph signing, displays, and a family fun day in the field adjacent to the gym.
Olympic Gymnast, Louis Smith, commented on the plans:
'This will be a wonderful celebration of the greatest achievements of Huntingdon Gymnastics Club as we move towards the biggest sporting event in history. I'm very proud that the Olympic Torch will make the journey, not only to the Town of Huntingdon, but also to the front door of the very Club that has been my second home for over 16 years, and it would be wonderful to share a memorable weekend with so many friends and supporters that have helped me and the other kids on our journey so far'.
Smith, and team-mates Daniel Keatings and Luke Folwell are all hoping for selection as part of the GB Men's Squad for London 2012, and will be joined by Huntingdon gymnast, Marissa King, currently training and studying at University in Florida.
Anybody wishing to attend the Dinner or Torch Relay should contact the Club on 01480 52343, or check the website http://www.huntingdongymclub.org.uk/ for more information.
