Huntingdon Lions Club Safari 2010 Last year's Annual Safari Walk, a sponsored walk around Grafham Water, organised by the local Lions Club, raised almost £10,000 for local charities. The main beneficiaries were: - The Upside Down Club, who won the Lions Charity Shield, for the most money collected by a group, Macmillan Cancer Support and Acorn Cancer Support Group, St Neots. The Lions charity, Help for Heroes received £4300.
A further 12 groups were represented on the walk, held annually on the third Sunday in May. This year's walk will take place on Sunday 20th May and any groups or individuals interested in taking part should contact Lion Bernard Dable on 01480 810704
This will be the 33rd year that the local Lions Club have organised the sponsored walk and they hope for plenty of interest from local Charities and Clubs trying to raise money for their own worthy cause. Walkers retain 90% of the money raised and 10% is donated to the Lions Club for their chosen charity, which this year is Caresco, Sawtry.
CARESCO is a village charity providing day care for the elderly in the community, a print shop, a drop-in coffee shop & a nearly new clothes shop and the Sawtry Eye magazine, all with the help of volunteers.
The Lions Club deal with all the organisation required for a successful day, all participants need do is to obtain sponsors, do the walk and collect the money.
