Fun things to make in July
Ice cream sundae
They don't have to be chocolate covered sugary nightmares. I let the kids make them themselves, just set out little bowls of the things you want them to have on their ice cream, that way you can portion the toppings. A plastic picnic goblet makes an excellent safer alternative to a sundae dish.
Makes: 4 sundaes
Preparation time: 10 minutes
You will need
Ice cream
1 Peach, sliced
100g Strawberries, sliced
100g Blueberries
Hundreds and thousands
Mars bar
100ml Milk
Plastic picnic goblet
2 tbsp Maple syrup
Method
1. (a) If you want to make the easiest hot chocolate fudge sauce, melt the Mars bar with the milk in a small saucepan over a medium heat, try to keep stirring to a minimum. This is optional, don't forget to divide the sauce into small portions otherwise if I know my kids it'll be all chocolate and no fruit.
1. (b) If you don't want a chocolate sauce try this really simple hot blueberry sauce, just put 100g of fresh blueberries into a saucepan with 2 tbsp of Maple syrup and heat gently until the blue berries burst and you have a very purple sauce.
2. My kids are still quite small so I scoop the ice cream out for them, but if you have older kids they can do it themselves.
3. Put the small dishes of each fruit down and let the kids create their own culinary masterpiece.
4th July Fireworks picture
My daughter loves doing this, it is quite messy. There are two versions, glitter and runny glue or paint, you can do either or both.
You will need
Black or dark blue A4 paper
PVA Glue
3 or 4 different coloured glitter
3 or 4 different coloured paint
a few teaspoons
a drinking straw
an old newspaper
Method
1. Water down the glue and paint just enough to make them runny.
2. Cover your table in the old newspaper, it's going to be messy!
3. Give each child a piece of dark paper and drip a little paint or glue on the paper with the teaspoon and blow with the straw until it spreads out, turn the paper to blow in all directions.
4. Repeat until you have a cool fire work pattern. Now sprinkle with a little glitter.
5. Allow to dry and then shake off the excess glitter.
Easy peasy Blueberry muffins.
