Waitrose unveiled its new ‘Market Town Format' for the first time anywhere in the country today (Friday 16 May) at its St Neots branch.
To mark the occasion, Waitrose hosted a day of celebrations with local jazz band, The Cambridge Jazz Company, keeping customers entertained throughout the day and Mayor Robert Eaton, Lady Mayoress Gay Eaton and Deputy Mayor, Councillor Alan Cummings helping to open the new-look food shop.
The first three customers through the door - Faye Browne, Julia Osmond and Trevor Bartlett, each received a gift of a bottle of champagne and a bouquet of flowers from Waitrose.

During the day Branch Manager Tim Cobley and Departmental Manager Ian Cooper tried their hands at riding a traditional grocer's tandem.
After a brief six-day closure for the refurbishment, St Neots has become the first community in the UK to experience the brand new format.
Key features of this new format are:
- New branch design, look and ranges tailored to the needs of St Neots
- Locally produced food and drink lines increased by 200% - more than ever before
- More emphasis on fresh foods with over half the shop dedicated to fresh products - significantly more than other supermarkets

Branch Manager, Tim Cobley, said: "We're looking forward to welcoming customers back instore and to introducing them to our new look - they are pioneers for this new format. Our Partners and Waitrose staff are eager to start working in the new environment, which is designed to reflect the feel of a traditional grocery shop and create a real sense of community. We're very happy to offer our customers even more local and regionally produced food and drink, and give them a greater opportunity to taste what our suppliers have to offer."
