EYNESBURY ROVERS 1 HUNTINGDON TOWN 1
Two goals including a late equaliser, two dismissals, a missed penalty and a host of chances gave the crowd of 136 spectators plenty to talk about at the end of this pulsating local derby. There was added spice to the fixture as last year's Eynesbury management team of Al Lenihan and Pat O'Keeffe returned with their new charges. Nine players in the Huntingdon squad were plying their trade with Eynesbury last season, whilst the Eynesbury management duo of Matt Plumb and Ian Dawkes appeared briefly for Huntingdon last season.
Eynesbury had the better of the first half with the visitor's rarely threatening. Joe Jordan's corner kick clipped off the top of the crossbar whilst Darren Woodend's header was blocked by a defender. There was controversy in the 23rd minute when Huntingdon goalkeeper Dave Beeny, last year's player of the season at Eynesbury, brought down Joe Jordan inside the penalty area. The ‘keeper escaped with just a yellow card and Woodend's penalty kick struck the post. Jordan and Woodend came close before Huntingdon's Scott Quinney had his shot parried by Houseago and Sam Kingston's follow up shot was deflected behind for a corner.
Six minutes into the second half Chris Brown dispossessed Lee Booker and rounded Ben Houseago but Booker recovered to block Brown's shot. Beeny saved from Matt Plumb and Scott Kingsbury before the visitor's took a 58th minute lead. Dwayne Rankin's shot beat Houseago despite the fact that he got a hand to the ball.
Both sides had chances as the game swung from end to end. Brown and Rankin came close for Huntingdon whilst Adam Boothby and Joe Jordan almost scored for Eynesbury. Rovers' equaliser came in the 83rd minute. Ian Dawkes ran into the Huntingdon penalty area and his low drive was parried by Beeny only for the ball to fall to Ricky Taylor who scored his first goal of the season with a shot from 19 yards. In the ensuing aftermath Beeny picked up his second yellow card and was sent off. Just three minutes later Lee Booker, who had recently joined Eynesbury from Huntingdon, was harshly sent off for a foul just inside the Eynesbury half.
