A SENSE OF COMMUNITY - A SENSE OF PLACE
You have heard me say before that St Neots is a great town. I mean that. I am not St Neots born and bred but like many people who love this town, I chose to live here, to bring my children up here and to be part of this community. Our town has forged a strong sense of identity through facing many challenges over the years, but now we face a new challenge. St Neots is changing and growing.
Over the next decade we will see thousands of new faces arriving here. People like me from other parts of the country, and even from other parts of Europe. The challenge is to bring these people together and to build them into the fabric of our community. Of course that is easy to say, but difficult to achieve.
We must bring in the facilities which get people away from their TV's and computers, to get out and take part, not just to complain but to get involved and change things. I would urge you all to come to a council meeting and tell us what you think, to join a community group and help out, or join a sports club and get fit. There are almost 300 clubs and societies in and around St Neots and they would all love to see you. Yes YOU! For more information see AboutMyArea/PE19's Clubs and Organisations section or The Town Council Website.
The Town Council is trying to provide community facilities like parks and gardens, events and activities and community buildings. The Priory Centre is the most important of these (see www.thepriorycentre.com) but we are committed to providing a community centre in every ward of the town. We hope to start building the new Eatons Community Centre in the early summer. We also hope this year to be provided with land in the new Love's Farm development for a community centre to serve our newest suburb. If you would like to be involved in these projects please let the Council know. Telephone 01490 388911.
