Testimonials
"I would like to say thankyou for all your support since advertising with you. The monthly competitions and articles have really helped to raise my salons profile in and around St Neots. with a number of your site visitors providing me with repeat business. I have also found that my regular clients have visited your website to view my pricelist which you have kindly displayed...I am very dubious about advertising locally on websites and in local papers especially as I have a very small advertising budget but your honest down to earth approach really made me feel it was worth taking a chance, a chance that seems to be paying off. Not only has it been worth while from a business point of view but as a general visitor to the website it has really helped to make me aware of other businesses present in PE19 invaluable to someone who has only been living in Cambridgeshire for just over a year."

Children Invited to Design a Christmas Card

Published: 27th September 2007 17:46

PRIMARY school children in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough are being invited to take part in Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Service's Christmas Card competition.

The competition involves designing a Christmas card based on one of the Service's key Christmas safety messages and is open to children between the ages of seven and 11.

Three winning cards will be chosen and the winner of each design will receive prizes worth up to £50, kindly donated by Sainsbury's of Huntingdon. The winner of the best overall design will also win a trip around their local fire station, and their school class will get a visit by firefighters.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer Graham Stagg said: "More people die or are seriously injured from fires in their homes between Christmas and New Year than at any other time. Every Christmas we urge people to take extra care at this time of year by promoting the 12 Days of Christmas fire safety messages, and this year we are going one step further by having an important safety message on our corporate Christmas cards too to make sure the message really hits home."

The design must be based on one of the three chosen messages, which are:

  • A smoke alarm is the best present you can give this Christmas - test yours every week and replace the battery every year.
  • Take care when using candles at Christmas - never leave them burning unattended.
  • Take special care with Christmas lights - never overload electrical sockets and make sure you unplug them when you go to bed.

Parents and guardians will be able to benefit from the competition too. At the bottom of every application form is a section that adults can fill out to request a free home fire safety check. This is where a member of fire service staff visits your home, goes through some important fire safety advice, helps plan out your family's escape route and fits free smoke alarms if the house does not already have them.

Every entry will be automatically entered into a free prize draw and the lucky winner, who will be picked at random, will receive a £50 Sainsbury's voucher.

The closing date for entries is noon on Friday 26th October 2007.

For an application form visit www.cambsfire.gov.uk/community or call 01480 444640.

If you do not wish to enter the Christmas Card competition but would like a free home fire safety check, contact your local fire station or call 01480 444666.
