Councils New Free Home Insulation Scheme
| Published: 9th August 2007 10:22 |
Over £300,000 has been awarded to Huntingdonshire District Council by the Regional Housing Board to help improve the levels of thermal comfort in properties across the district that currently have little or no insulation.
The council has created the Warmer Homes for Life free insulation scheme, which will support the on-going improvement of local housing. A well insulated home reduces the risk of damp problems, provides a more comfortable and warm environment, and can help to prevent cold-related illnesses. It can also save the householder money on fuel bills and benefit the environment by reducing carbon emissions, one of the main contributors towards climate change.
If you own your home or you live in privately rented accommodation and you receive any of the following benefits, you will be eligible for free cavity wall and/or loft insulation for your home under the scheme.
- Child Tax Credit (with an income of less than £15,460)
- Working Tax Credit (with an income of less than £15,460)
- Attendance Allowance
- Disability Living Allowance
- Income Support
- Housing Benefit
- Council Tax Benefit
- War Disablement Pension
- Industrial Injuries Pension
- Pension Credits
Households who receive the free insulation will also benefit from an assessment of their property to help identify where any other home improvements can be made and will be advised of any financial assistance that may be available to assist them.
