Recycling & Refuse Collection Service Guide

Below is a guide of what we can actually put into our bins if they are collected by Huntingdonshire District Council.
RECYCLING
Huntingdonshire District Council collect dry recyclable waste from households in the district using a variety of containers.
Residents can use:
- Wheeled Bins
- Green Boxes
- Clear Sacks
Dry Recycling is collected from households every two weeks.
The list below shows all the materials that can be placed in the wheeled bin, green box or clear sack for recycling.
- Newspaper & Magazines
- Junk Mail & Flyers
- Envelopes
- Holiday Brochures & Directories
- Cardboard & Packaging Card
- Tetra Packs (Milk, Juice and Squash Cartons)
- Plastic - All Bottles (HDPE, PVC, PET)
- Cans, Tins & Foil
You cannot place any of the following items in recycling waste.
- Egg Boxes, Cling Film & Polystyrene
- Flower Pots, Yoghurt Pots or Margarine Tubs
- Paint Tins
- Broken Toys or Housewares
- Glass - Please take to your local bottle bank.
- Textiles - Please take to your local charity shop or clothing bank
COMPOSTING
Huntingdonshire District Council collect garden waste from households in the district using wheeled bins.
Compostable Waste is collected from households every two weeks.
The list below shows all the materials that can be placed in the wheeled bin for composting.
Garden Waste Including:
- Grass Cuttings
- Prunings from Hedges, Shrubs and Trees
- Leaves, Bark, Straw and Sawdust
- Untreated Wood
- Flowers and Weeds
- Windfall
Kitchen Waste Including:
- Vegetable and Fruit Peelings
- Dairy Products
- Meat
- Fish
- Bones
- All Cooked and Uncooked Food
Items you cannot place in the wheeled bins for composting include:
- Plastic Bags
- Anything that will not Rot
- Other Domestic Refuse
RUBBISH
Domestic waste is waste from householders which cannot be recycled, composted, reused or disposed of by other means.
To help reduce our refuse please consider the following:
- Avoid buying over packaged goods
- Avoid buying disposables - buy longer lasting items
- Junk Mail - Remove your name from mailing lists
- Buy Refill packs and reuse the original container
- Unwanted furniture, clothes and books can be donated to charity shops
- Use Reusable bags and say No to disposable plastic bags
When using your wheeled bin for rubbish please:
- Do not over fill your wheeled bin
- The wheeled bins should not be used for hot ashes, heavy materials or liquids. Contact 0800 3986613 for advice.

To help make sure your bins are collected efficiently please:
- Ensure that the correct wheeled bin is out by 6.30am on the day of collection
- Please place your wheeled bin at the edge of your property on collection day
- Please return your wheeled bin onto your property as soon after collection as possible
- Make sure you do not overfill your wheeled bin. If your bin is too heavy to move it will not be emptied.
