ALEXANDER ELLIS - CONSERVATIVE PARTY

I'm standing with Boris Johnson in an attempt to ensure that in four
years time London is a better place to live than it is now.
We want a safer and more efficient City, equipped to face the
challenges of the future with an improving quality of life for
all of its residents.
We want more police on our streets. Just by cutting the staff in
City Hall and the MPS we will put 490 more Police and PSCOs on
the street. We will lobby the Government to reduce the paper-
work burden on the police and use other staff for form-filling
allowing the police to do their jobs. Police Borough commanders
must be more accountable to the public and we will use
crime mapping to highlight, for residents and Police alike,
where the problems are concentrated so that resources can
be correctly targeted.
We want to improve traffic flow, by changing the phasing of traffic
lights allowing cars to move freely - TFL admits that they are timed
to obstruct drivers, thus ensuring that more pollutants are pumped
into the air. We want to encourage recycling, ensure that new
homes are environmentally friendly and improve public transport
to the point that people feel that they don't need to use their
cars all the time. We will use the review of the Tube PPP contracts
in 2010 to ensure that real differences are made - we want new
tracks and signalling - not just refurbished stations. We also
pledge to defend the greenbelt and gardens of London from
development.
We will work with councils to ensure that 50,000 new affordable
homes are built by 2011. Despite the difficult times currently facing
the housing sector we will work with builders and Councils to ensure
that decent homes are made available. GLA land will be released
to enable this new housing to be built and we will also release
surplus money to help renovate the 1000s of London's empty
properties.
