Schools transfer deadline approaching

Published: 9th March 2007 10:30
All secondary school offers were sent out by first class post on 1 March 2006 and parents have until Thursday 15 March to send the reply section back to the council with their response. Parents do not have to accept the offer that has been made but they must respond.

The council received 2812 applications on time this year, over 100 more than in 2006. Of these, 2446 families (87%) got one of their first three choices, with 1963 (69.8%) getting their first choice of school. There are currently 45 children who have not been offered a school place but this will be addressed over the coming nine months. Just over 52 per cent of families who were not offered a place at any of their preferred schools are from the south of the borough, using the North Circular Road as a measure.

John Christie, Director of Children and Families at Brent Council, said: "The process has gone well and we have been able to offer a high number of parents their first choice school. For the first time this year the council will handle the allocation of places right up to the end of the process, whereas in previous years schools took over at this stage. Because of this we will work hard to accommodate those families who do not have a place at present and going by previous experience many places will become available across the borough before school starts in September. "
