Ever yearned to try Japanese flower arrangement or to test your Salsa skills?
Brent Council’s Adult Learners’ Week runs from May 19 to 26 with a packed programme offering adults of all ages the chance to experience something new and for free.
Each year around 10,000 events take place across the UK to celebrate this national week-long festival of learning.
Led by the National Institute of Adult Continuing Education (NIACE), Adult Learners’ Week celebrates the achievements of adults who return to learning and shows people it is never too late to try something different.
‘Join our Journey’ is the theme for Brent Council’s great line-up this year, which is being delivered by Brent Adult and Community Education Services (BACES).
It includes classes in digital photography, watercolours, comedy poetry for speakers of English as a second language, a citizenship workshop, Salsa dance class, and music career advice.
The packed programme includes IT specific lessons to teach any silver-haired surfer their way around the internet with classes like IT for the over 60’s, First Time Online or the Internet Taster Session. There is also an E-Bay workshop to find out how to get buying and selling online.
Head of BACES, Sue Hasty, said: “We run a number of exciting classes throughout the year but this week is special as it offers residents a taster of what’s on offer. It is a time when thousands of people can realise long-held ambitions just by giving it a go.”
Classes are being held throughout Brent and some will require advance booking. A list of events on offer can be found at www.brent.gov.uk/libraries or you can find out more about Adult Learners Week at www.niace.org.uk. Fliers listing activities are also available in Brent Libraries.
