Summer is heating up and so is the excitement for the Brent Respect Festival on July 8th - which is now just one week away.
Each year this free festival is organised by Brent Council and is anticipated by residents and visitors alike who spill into the stunning Roundwood Park, which recently won Britain in Bloom.
About 20,000 people are expected to attend this year to soak up the sun and enjoy the vast range of entertainment, food and activities spread throughout the park.
Held in Roundwood Park in Harlesden from 1pm – 8pm, it boasts a colourful programme which celebrates Brent’s cultural diversity, opposes racism and provides a platform for local artists and performers.
The fifth Brent Respect Festival is destined to be as big as the rest and will have two live music stages, a dance tent, story telling, a fun fair, a dog show and a healing and treatment area.
Band highlights will include:
- Keith Waithe and Macussi Players who will get the crowd grooving with their international fusion of jazz, western and classical music
- Jamaican dancehall artist Delroy Washington who has a stack of releases that won’t disappoint reggae fans
- African music legend, Dele Sosimi performing his Afrobeats with a 10 piece band.
And that is just a taster…
From market stalls to making your mark on a giant finger-painting mural, Tea dancing to African drumming - Brent Respect Festival prides itself in being inclusive to everyone.
People can find out about what is happening in the borough, children can join in a sports session or arts class and families can sample food from around the world.
To compliment the event, the council is also holding a series of multicultural author talks, story telling and poetry sessions in Brent Libraries and a special Black History programme throughout July.
Vashti Waite, Festival Officer at Brent Council said: “Don’t miss out on the exciting line up we have in store. There are workshops to give a feel of the ongoing activities in Brent and lots of talented performers to watch. There is something to suit everyone’s taste buds from healing and story telling to bands and dance”.
“Roundwood Park will be a hive of activity where we can enjoy the diverse community who call Brent their home and celebrate in the richness it brings to us all.”
