British sculptor, Jeff Lowe has lived and worked in London and Portugal since the early 1970s. His sculptures have been exhibited worldwide. Solo shows include the Centre for Contemporary Art (Australia), Trem Gallery (Portugal), MAAK Gallery (London) and selected group exhibitions include Bodo Niemann Gallery (Berlin), Galeria Internacional de Arte (Portugal) and the National Gallery (Melbourne).
Lowes work has been observed for being object lessons in close observation. As a maker of form they are carefully made by a serious artist who has devoted himself to the demanding business of high art . Lowes works range from large scale free standing objects to intimate wall panels that use elements of drawing and relief, occupying an area in sculpture which seems to have been neglected for some years.
Lowe won the Pollock-Krasner Award, New York in 1993 and consequently was shortlisted for Hakoni Prize, Japan 1994; other awards include the Greater London Arts Award (1976), and the Sainsbury Award (1975). Lowe was an artist in residence at Mermer Stone Quarry, Yugoslavia, (1976) and Praham College, Melbourne, Australia (1977). Public Collections include Leicester Education Authority, Arts Council England, Contemporary Arts Society, Channel 4 Television and the National Gallery, Austrailia. He studied at Leicester College of Art (1970-72) and St. Martin's School of Art (1971-75).
Jeff Lowe is currently working on larger scale works in his studio in South Bermondsey and in Portugal. He has recently taken on a 10,000 sq ft warehouse in order to realise a series of 12 large cast sculptures in Iron, Aluminum and Bronze.
