Who we are:
REAL is an independent voluntary organisation that works with organisations and individuals to provide a positive racial equality agenda aimed at improving the life chances of minority and alienated communities in the borough of Lewisham.
We intend to provide a leadership role in main areas through our involvement in partnership work with Lewisham Council, Lewisham Primary Care Trust and other statutory/voluntary organisations in the borough.
We will also provide policy advice to enable public bodies to meet their general and specifc duties under the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 200.
Get Involved!
We can only effectively undertake this work with your input and support. We want to work with YOU in all areas of inequality, indiscrimination and promotion of equal opportunity.
We want your views on Housing, Health Services Community Safety and to provide an oportunity for you to raise awareness and issues of relevance to equality, diversity and human rights.
We would welcome those of you who would like to volunteer with us. You can contribute to the discussion on our priority areas of work such as Education, youth issues, housing rights etc.
REAL invites you to become members, attend our events, participate in our forums, highlight issues and become part of the solution to achieve real equality for all members of the Lewisham Community.
Young People of Lewisham
We would like to extend this invitation to the young people of Lewisham to become involved in the work of REAL. We see you as having a crucial role in shaping and contributing to the work of REAL, as well as the Community Cohesion and Regeneration agendas for the current and future generations of the borough.
Kevin Haggarthy, Director of REAL says "Race equality aspirations are one thing, but achieving them is another. To this end I strongly encourage you to be part of our mission of achieving real change by becoming involved in our organisation and using the opportunity we have to influence local matters that concern you."
Forthcoming Events.
REAL are holding their 3rd Annual General Meeting in the council Chamber of Lewisham Town Hall (Civic Suite) at 7pm on 16th November.
As always with REAL the evening promises to be lively, informative, enlightening, and entertaining. In addition REAL is leading a wide range of work on key issues of concern to black and ethnic minority people in the borough well as vigorously campaigning for improvenments at the most influental level across the whole range of public services.
The night promises to be interesting and controversial. Food, film and entertainment will be provided.
