An Interview With Next Stop Atlanta

Published: 17th January 2012 14:35
Can you tell us how you guys got together?

A couple of years ago Nik, Blake and Ant began jamming together. After a few rehearsals we began auditioning vocalists. Georgia stepped up with flawless audition. At the time, Georgia was a solo artist within the Preston scene and also close friends with all of us. It was almost too perfect! The rest is history.

How did you get to the band name Next Stop Atlanta, and what does it mean to you?

It means everything to us. We leave and breathe this band. We even has NSA tattoos. Nik came up with the name. Originally we wanted Next Stop...something else. Then one evening Nik blurted out Atlanta. With Atlanta being in Georgia, and Georgia being our singers' name... you get the picture.

Next Stop Atlanta

How would you define your sound to an unfamiliar reader?

Melodic pop rock with energy, passion and big sing-a-long choruses

As 2011 has just ended what would you say was the biggest achievement of that year for you?

We have two, or maybe three! Playing to 8,000 people supporting the legendary Status Quo. The second, releasing our debut EP. And finally shooting a music video. It was a great year us. 2012 will top that!

What was it like to work with Matt O' Grady (You Me At Six) on your debut EP?

It was a great experience. Matty is a true professional who aims to get the most out of the artists. He opened our eyes further and drove us to fulfil our goals in the studio.

So you guys have finished your new mini album 'The Things You Do Best' with this in mind can you tell us what we can expect from the record, and maybe a bit about the recording process for this record?

Expect 6 new songs of NSA taking things to a new level. The development in songwriting is evident and every song is as consistent as the last. The choruses are bigger and the hooks are catchier. We are immensely proud of every song on the record. We went into the studio with Dan Lancaster (Don Broco/Lower Than Atlantis/We Are The Ocean) this time. He is awesome, a real character. We had so much fun. He made the vibe really relaxed and coached us during production to ensure we delivered.

How did you get to the title 'The Things You Do Best' and what do you want it to illustrate to your fans?

It is a lyric from the second song on the record "Always With The Drama". We took it with the intention of illustrating to our fans that this is NSA giving back to the people who have supported us, as it doesn't go unnoticed.

With a female fronted singer, and being pop punk, do you get people trying to instantly compare you to Paramore without even properly listening to your music? If so does this annoy you, or do you take it as a compliment?

We often get the Paramore comparisons. Georgia is even a natural red-head. It doesn't annoy us, no matter how negative the comparisons are. It motivates us to change people's view of us if anything. In this business you have to take the rough with the smooth, so we just get on with developing NSA and taking things onto the next stage.

As an upcoming band, what sets you apart from the rest?

We are immensely passionate and there is nothing that will stop us achieving our goals and dreams. We want to reach as many people as possible with our music and we have the desire, drive and ambition to make it happen.

What do you want 2012 to do for Next Stop Atlanta?

To tour as much as possible and really establish ourselves as contenders in the UK scene. We want to leave our mark on every show, every tv screen, and every ipod we appear on...
