pacesThe Big Comedy Sketch Show has been developed by ten young people from Stockport Signpost for Young Carers. Led by a team from the Big Comedy Shop, the team wrote, directed and starred in their very own comedy production.
After six weeks of planning, preparation and rehearsals, the group will take to the stage and perform in front of a group of peers and close friends at Merseyway Shopping Centre later this week.
Sarah Rowe, from Youth Action Stockport, said: "This has been a fantastic opportunity for these young people to take some time out from their usual responsibilities as young carers and provide a safe space for them to express themselves and also have fun. They were able to gain valuable communication, team building and leadership qualities, as well as taking part in an event which helps to build upon their own self-esteem."
Young carers are individuals aged under 18 who, without payment, provide help and support to friends, neighbours or relatives who are unable to manage because of frailty, illness or disability.
This task is part of an overall project called 'Volunteering Matters' which has been co-ordinated by Stockport's Services for Young People.
The Big Comedy Sketch Show was set-up by Youth Action Stockport in association with Stockport Signpost for Young Carers, an organisation set-up to help young people who care for friends or relatives.
