Neighbourhood Policing - burglaries are down!

Published: 2nd July 2008 16:48

Inspector Dave Turner of the Cheadle Police

Inspector Dave Turner gave a brief overview of Neighbourhood Policing at the Cheadle Area Meeting last night on July 2nd.

Burglaries for the area are down from last year

- however many of the burglaries being committed are due to opportunistic thieves finding doors not locked for instance whilst people are sitting on patios. The police have managed to gain convictions - prison or community service for 3 thieves recently and they have a pretty good idea of who is doing some of the current burglaries so they too will soon be behind bars.

Anti Social Behaviour remains to be a source of frustration

- but having said that the situation at Cheadle Royal has improved with no reported fires to the Fire brigade there recently. This is in part due to working with the managment of the various companies there who have put in their own security staff and CCTV together with Police, along with local PCSO's patrolling seems to be acting as a deterrent.

Abney Hall recently suffered damage with a bench set fire to and damage to a sanctuary but this does not seem to be escalating.

2 incidents recently at Bruntwood Park

- (one a sexual assault on a woman at 4.30 in the afternoon and another non sexual assault on a young 13 year old girl) are serious but not linked to each other. The CID is dealing with this. PCSO's are out on their bikes in the park and mounted police having been booked in for a couple of days per week. The parks staffs have been spoken to - to see if they could possibly patrol the park however for safety they should do this in pairs, and it is unlikely that there is the staff to spare too often. Apart from that there is no obvious place in the park to have CCTV as the park is so big, therefore another idea is to create a ‘safe route' within the park.

The public should ring 999 or the 0161 872 5050 telephone numbers if ever they experience or see anything suspicious.
