Telephone Kiosk Closure Review:-
BT says that out of 61,792 public payphones only 60% cover their costs so they need to "realign payphone provision to meet consumer demand." This affects 6 pay phones in the Cheadle SK8 area as follows:
0161 437 1237 Thornton Road, Heald Green, adjacent to 42 Thornton Road (closure agreed)
0161 437 2235 Outwood Road, Heald Green, adjacent to 414 Wilmslow Road (*usage figures needed)
0161 437 4011 Outwood Road junction with Cross Road, Heald Green (*usage figures needed)
0161 440 0252 Grove Lane - adjacent to 124 & 126 Grove Lane (*usage figures required)
0161 485 4251 - adjacent to 27 Ladybridge Road at junction of Meadway (*usage figures required)
0161 485 4476 - Birtlespool Road Cheadle Hulme at junction with Queens Road (*usage figures required)
*The figures should be presented to chair asap who would then take a decision wether to agree proposals for closure of any of the above telephone kiosks, as the deadline for comments to BT is 6th September.
Stanley Road/Earl Road, Heald Green Improvement
- members of the committee noted contents of a report and recommended that consultation and detailed design are instigated at the earliest opportunity:
To increase the capacity and safety of the junction, the following have to be investigated:
1) Remarking of the Earl road approach from a single lane exit into a 2 lane exit
2) Widening of the westbound carriageway of Stanley Road utilising the existing grass verge, creating a 2 lane approach to the traffic signal which will enable the lanes to be dedicated individually between left turning and straight ahead traffic.
3) Removal of the existing traffic island on the westbound approach to allow HGV swept paths to be maintained in to the Earl Road Estate.
4) Controlled pedestrian facilities across all sides of the junction.
Open forums/ themed meetings
This item presented by Craig Ainsworth concluded that more open forums and themed meetings involving local residents, schools etc are being planned within the Cheadle and rest of Stockport area over the next 12 months. These could have themes such as Climate Change, Moss Care (local housing provider) commencing in the second half of September.
Progress Report on other issues
A34 (Kingsway and Gatley Road) A560 works at junction. Various electronic filters are embedded within the junction to filter traffic from Cheadle to Manchester and from Gatley to Wilmslow. However these filters cannot be put into operation until the Highways Agency are sure that traffic will not be backing up onto the motorway as a result.
Cheadle Hulme Parking Issues
After consultations Cheadle Hulme North had no objections but Cheadle Hulme South did. Money is available for the Traffic Regulations to be enforced but this will happen after the Cheadle Hulme South issues have been discussed at Bramhall Area Committee.
The next Cheadle Area Committee meeting will take place on Tuesday 29th July 2008.
