A pensioner who died following a collision in which the driver failed to stop has been formally identified.
Dorothy Wade, 89, from Stockport, died yesterday, Wednesday 8 October 2008.
Shortly before 10am on Wednesday 8 October 2008, police were called to Turves Road in Heald Green, following a report a car had collided with a pedestrian.
Dorothy was taken to Stepping Hill hospital where she later died.
The car involved in the collision did not stop at the scene. Witnesses who saw it have described it as being a blue car of a similar size to a Nissan Micra or Peugeot.
A post mortem is due to take place later today.
Police Sergeant Jon White, from the Road Policing Unit, said: "The collision occurred on a busy road in broad daylight and I am certain someone would have seen something.
"It is difficult to comprehend how anyone can drive off from the scene of an accident, leaving an elderly woman dying in the road.
"I would also appeal directly to the driver to hand yourself in, as we will not stop until the driver has been identified."
Anyone with any information about the collision is asked to call Stockport CID 0161 856 9740 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
