Police are keen to trace the driver of a Fiat Punto who may have seen the collision which resulted in the death of Doris Wade.
Doris, aged 89, died on Wednesday 8 October 2008.
Shortly before 10am on Wednesday, police were called to Turves Road, Heald Green, following a report a car had collided with a pedestrian.
A Fiat Punto may have stopped at the scene with another car.
Officers are keen to emphasise they do not believe this car was involved in the collision but it is thought the driver could hold vital information about what happened.
Sergeant Jon White from Road Policing Unit said: "It has come to light a Fiat Punto was in the area at the time of the collision.
"We don't believe it was involved, but we believe the car may have stopped at the scene and could hold vital information about the person and vehicle responsible.
"The person who drove off leaving Doris dying in the road needs to be caught and held accountable for their actions so if you are the Punto driver please get in touch.
"I would like to send a final message to the driver who failed to stop - it is only a matter of time before we trace you and it would be much better if you came to us first."
Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact Stockport CID on 0161 856 9740 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
