Schools Talk

Police in Stockport are talking directly to school pupils to help keep them safe and away from crime.

Over a two-week period and as part of 'Not In My Neighbourhood Week', officers from the Stockport North Neighbourhood Policing Team will deliver presentations to 5,000 pupils during schools assemblies.
In the presentations pupils from Reddish Vale Technology College, Priestnall School and Saint Anne's School will receive simple safety tips on how to reduce their chance of becoming a victim of crime. The presentations will also focus on the impact of anti-social behaviour on communities and on how to have a safe and enjoyable Halloween and bonfire night.
After the talks officers will also be on hand to property mark valuables such as mobile phones and mp3 players so if they are stolen and later recovered they can be returned to their rightful owner.
Sergeant David Barrett from the Stockport North Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "Visiting the schools encourages interaction and helps to build bridges between the local Neighbourhood Policing Team and the communities they serve.
"We felt it was important to promote the key safety messages in the run up to half-term and anti-bullying week.
Police Constable Lee Scott who delivered the first talk at Reddish Vale Technology College said: "Peer pressure can have an impact on people of a young age and some of the advice is tailored to helping them to say no with confidence. The pupils were very receptive and I hope they can follow some of the advice I provided."
Police are now encouraging people to register their valuables on www.immobilise.com - the national property-marking database.
