Two World Champions in one family.
Joshua and Jacob O'Connor have recently come home from the Taekwondo World Championships in Italy, where 67 countries and 5,000 competitors took part. They both came first in their age category and received a gold medal each. They have also gained many British titles between them.
Joshua achieved his black belt on 1 February 2007 at ten years old and is due to take his Second Dan black belt this month. Jacob is taking his black belt this month aged only eight along with his dad, Mark.
The two brothers have been training in Taekwondo for nearly five years. They have followed their instructors Carl Thomas and Brian Bannister to many different clubs and have now got their own full time centre ‘Energize Martial Arts' in Stockport. Carl and Brian are highly respected instructors and are responsible for a few of their students to qualify for the Great Britain team.

"To have two World Champions in the family is incredible. We are all very proud of them. We would like to thank Darren Smith at Provectus Training Company for his sponsorship and to Carl and Brian, their fabulous instructors who have not only taught them an incredible skill but respect, discipline and decent values".
Carl Thomas and Brian Bannister, Energize Martial Arts issued the following statement
"It's amazing how you can see the progression of the students at the academy, from Jacob and Joshua's first class as nervous children to them standing on the podium with their national anthem being played as young men.
An achievement like this is something that can never be taken away from them and is the result of years of training, thousands of classes, amazing dedication and a true black belt attitude.
Josh and Jake are now the front-runners of the academy and we hope they encourage and inspire others to challenge themselves and follow in their footsteps of representing their country on the world stage. Congratulations from your instructors and close friends at Energize Martial Arts"
