Maggie was born in the U.K. and brought up in a small village but she loved the idea of travel and adventure and joined the WRAF as soon she was 17. She trained in the service as a dental nurse and was quickly selected for hygienist training
Now in her early 60's, she was a single Mum for a number of years and is now happily married with four grown up children, two step children and fourteen grandchildren!. She is very enthusiastic about her work, even after all these years, and endeavours to inspire others with her enthusiasm.. Despite periodontal treatment being sometimes testing for patients, they like her and she has built an enviable reputation as a clinician and an opinion former in the profession as a whole.
A great believer in continuing education, she was in November 2003 awarded a Master of Philosophy in Dentistry a post graduate degree from Leeds University where she was recently headhunted' as a part- time research hygienist on a number of trials. She has had a number of publications and has used her personal research findings to help design a new interdental brush for the treatment and control of interdental periodontal pocketing.
Maggie works with the top periodontal practice in Manchester that she has helped to develop over a period of twenty-five years, where she is the hygienist team leader. She also travels to work in a specialist periodontal practice in Essex. Her role besides treatment is advancing the training of many hygienists in the treatment of periodontal diseases and continues this in all her practices. She is constantly in demand as a speaker in many venues and was the first hygienist to speak at Stafford Miller's 'Talking Points' a nation wide road show and has recently lectured to Hygienists from the UK to Australia.
Now she has decided to offer an alternative referral route for patients who need a thorough periodontal assessment and treatment to stabilise their condition prior to approaching a Periodontal Specialist.
