The Beech Road club, who last won the domestic title in the 2006-7 season, hammered Poynton 20-1 on Saturday to edge two points ahead of Wilmslow in top spot. Their opponents are bottom of the table after a second defeat in as many weeks.
Wilmslow postponed their domestic duty against Heaton Mersey, a decision which proved fruitful as they won the inaugural European Lacrosse Federation Champions Cup in Hamburg, Germany, at the weekend.
And Stockport didn't waste the opportunity to pull ahead, albeit Wilmslow, the defending champions, have a game in hand at this early stage of proceedings.
Paul Fullerton, the former England international, top-scored for Stockport with six goals, with Tom Gosnay on target with five goals. The visitors won the first quarter 9-0, before winning every quarter after that 4-1, 4-0 and finally 3-0.
Timperley, who came within a whisker of winning the Premier Division crown last term, impressed with a 10-4 victory at home to Mellor and are now third behind Wilmslow.
Attacker Ollie White top-scored with a hat-trick, with midfielders Andy Brickell and Steve Parkinson on the mark with useful doubles.
Boardman and Eccles won the battle of the promoted clubs as they beat Sheffield Steelers 9-6, while Cheadle registered their first win of the season, an 8-6 victory at home to Manchester Waconians.
Midfielder Adi Bennett impressed with three goals, while experienced campaigners Daren Baythorpe and Dave Carmen both scored two goals each as the home team won the second half 4-2 having been held at 4-4 at half-time.
