9th Heald Green Festival Review
| Published: 6th July 2007 17:19 |
Despite being rained off with the fun fair part of the festival being cancelled due to the state of the water logged field the 9th Heald green Festival was one that will go down in everyone's memory as - see quote by Ged McAndry (Heald Green Festival Chairman).
" Of the day - though very rainy we believe the people of Heald Green came along and supported this community event. Both the Public Hall and St. Catherine's Hall were jam packed for most of the day and everyone seemed to be having a good time.
Word of our event must have reached out wide as we had the prospective Tory Candidate for Cheadle pay us a visit.
Though many people judge such events by the monetary takings this is not the main criteria of the Heald Green Festival - our objective is to bring the community together and provide some entertainment for the community by the community"
.
This included a primary schools colouring competition for each age group, and in retaining the local theme the paintings/colourings had to be their view of shopping in Heald Green - there were some interesting and colourful entries! The winners' pictures are currently on display at the Cafe Unity, Finney Lane, Heald Green.

All the winners received lovely prizes and the first prize winners from both categories received the shields for The Winner of the Heald Green Art Competition 2007 and the Winner of the Heald Green Colouring Competition 2007. The paintings were judged by Judith Durrant, a local Heald Green Artist who also made comments as displayed here about each of the pictures. The younger children had a template to colour in, whilst the older ones created their own individual artwork. The winners of the competition are all pupils of the Prospectvale Primary or Outwood Primary School Schools in Heald Green.
The title for the competiton was "Shopping at Heald Green - a good place to shop". The judge Judith Durrant makes comments next to each picture.
First Prize for Heald Green Art Competition 2007 was to Alexandra Argyle Age 8
"This painting is eye catching because of it's large size with a great deal of detail demonstrating the variety of shops, pleasant surroundings and plenty of happy shoppers with full shopping bags. This expresses well the title she was given to interpret".

"What a lovely, lively painting with coulour. It gives a sense of brightness and business with very happy bustling people. It makes you feel it is great to shop in Heald Green."
Third Prize for Heald Green Art Competition 2007 was to Anthony Bryan Aged 11
"This is a thoughtful idea with use of collage and colour. Anthony has cleverly designed his picture to spell out the words 'Heald Green'.
First Prize for Heald Green Colouring Competition 2007 was to Jasmine Furness Age 6
"These 3 awards were very close to judge but Jasmine has produced a very bright interpretation which is eye catching because of the colours she has chosen. These drinks and food look very inviting and again Heald Green seems to be a good place to shop.
Second Prize for Heald Green Colouring Competition 2007 was to Eleanor Pane Aged 5
"Eleanor's interpretation is excellent for a young child. She has not used as much colour but I would love to visit the Cafe adn the butchers and my word what exciting creatures are in the Pet Shop. She had shown great imagination."
Third Prize for Heald Green Colouring Competition 2007 was to Thayab Riaz aged 3.
"A lovely bright painting which Thayab has produced. The fruit looks good and the pot of tea is tempting. How lovely Heald green has a bank sothat we can all shop at this good place."
