2007 celebrates 100 years of Scouting and all groups have been asked to do something special for Scouting Sunrise on August 1st
2nd Cheadle Scout Group chose to do a sleepover in Cheadle Parish Church (St Mary's) last night (31st July) followed by a celebration of 100 years of Scouting led by Rector Rob Munroe outside the church this morning at 8am. This involved Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts, Explorer Scouts and Leaders.

Colin Rankin (Cub Scout Leader for Wessex Cubs) gave a summary of the fun packed exciting night's events "We all started to arrive at the church for 7o'clock and our first task was to organise the different sections for going up the church Tower and I can tell you it was jolly hard work but all participants managed it with some Mums and Dads doing so as well!
Waiting patiently for the ceremony and to make promises to begin

The Rector Rob had organised a quiz all about St Marys which went down a treat. The Scouts went back to our Headquarters to start fires so the cubs and themselves could cook sausages on a stick, and have a few games in our compound .

Whist this was going on the Beaver Scouts played Hide and seek around the Church. We all got back for Supper and watched the film The Incredibles and eventually retired to bed. Sleeping arrangements were not the best but we can all say we slept in a 15th Church -how many of us can say we have slept in a 15th Century Church and ascended the clock tower of Cheadle Church?"
Scouts, cubs and Beavers gathered together solemly listening
A renewal of the Promises took place at 0800 hours this morning Wednesday 1st August in view of the Cheadle people on their way to work.
The rather tired young Beaver Scouts listen to the Promise
A big cheer went up from the very tired young ‘revellers', some barely able to keep their eyes open as balloons went up into the air with a wave to passing onlookers and traffic in the High Street. The youngsters then did a huge tidy up to get the church back to normal.
Everyone watches as the balloons are unfastened
The 3 Leaders leading the renewal of their promise were John Glenton (Scout Leader), Colin Rankin (Cub Scout Leader for Wessex Cubs - there are 2 Cub Packs, Wessex and Mercia), and Lin Dyall - a Beaver Scout Leader with Moseley Beavers. (There are 2 Beaver colonies -Moseley and Abney).

Colin says "A huge thank you to the Church and to all the Leaders who gave so much effort to make our Scouting Sunrise a special day for all. A joy to be part of Scouting"
