3. Matters Arising
AT asked for details on the phasing of the lights at the A34 once the junction has been altered. KR to speak to the network engineer
The banners that were hung on the George and Dragon have been removed, along with the picnic bench that was placed on the pavement.
The installation of bollards at Old Rectory Gardens in order to prevent illegal parking has been approved by Cheadle Area Committee. KR to find out when this work is to be programmed.
KR circulated copies of the Action Plan Review that she has compiled for Cheadle. A draft was taken to Cheadle Area Committee and was subsequently approved. The document will be available via the Stockport Council website shortly. If anyone requires a copy in the meantime then please contact KR on the details below.
A discussion took place about ward boundaries and questions were raised as to how boundaries are determined and reviewed.
It was reported that negotiations are ongoing with regards to the issue of the fee that Stockport Council will charge the supermarket operator of the former Somerfield store in order to allow delivery access across Council owned land.
4. Police Update
No police representative was present at the meeting. It was reported that there had been some incidents of car keys being stolen around the vicinity of Brooklyn Crescent. KR to raise with GMP for comment
5. Green Space Update
PM explained that carrying out a consultation on what improvements people would like to see at Cheadle Green will have to be postponed for the time being due to staff shortages in the Parks Community Development Team.
The winter work programme at Abney Hall has been completed. This has included fence repairs, completion of the footpath and the planting of an orchard. It is hoped that the orchard can be extended next year. A new overhead barrier has also been installed at the Manchester Road entrance.
The general maintenance programme across all the green spaces is ongoing.
It is hoped that fencing is to be installed at the bowling green.
JL updated the group on the improvements being made to Brooklyn Crescent Park. The new gate and fencing have been put in at the Massie Street entrance. New planting has been carried out. In the next couple of weeks the new footpath and installation of furniture will be complete. KR to investigate the possibility of replacing the street sign at the entrance as it is in a poor condition.
The entrance to Brookfield Park was hit by a car and has subsequently been repaired.
AT asked that a representative of Cheadle Civic Society be contacted regarding this year's hanging basket displays. The Civic Society makes a financial contribution to the baskets and has requested some input into the choice of plants. It was also reported that one of the baskets was not installed last year due to a broken bracket. PM to pass on to the relevant colleagues.
6. Cheadle District Centre Steward / district centre maintenance update
KR reported that Dave Wilson's secondment to the town centre stewards has been extended to August.
The temporary steward in post in Cheadle is called Colin Crossley. He is out in the centre five days a week and his main responsibility is keeping the pavements clean and tidy. KR is reporting any environmental problems that arise in the centre such as graffiti, damaged street furniture etc.
7. AOB
AM asked if the timings on the pelican crossing in the centre of Cheadle could be altered so that the lights change more quickly. KR explained that she had raised this issue in the past with the network engineer but would revisit it to see if the situation had changed at all.
KR explained that the parking manager had attended the last Cheadle Area Committee to discuss parking issues. KR explained that she will continue to report problem areas.
KR reported on a number of highway / footway schemes that have been proposed for this financial year and taken to Cheadle Area Committee for approval. They are as follows:
• Improvements to safety on side roads between Mary Street and Church Street
• Resurfacing of the carriageway on Ashfield Crescent, Eden Place and Mary Street
• The installation of bollards around Old Rectory Gardens
KR to come to the next meeting with information on when the work is likely to be carried out.
