Council Says a Big 'Thank You' to Residents For Recycling
Stockport Council is celebrating a successful month of recycling - and wants to thank all residents for their help in achieving such high levels. In January 2008, 1776 tonnes of glass, cans and paper was recycled in the borough. This is the equivalent to 1,800 family cars, enough to fill Merseyway shopping centre's car park twice over!
Councillor Stuart Bodsworth, Executive Member for the Environment, said: "I would like to say a big 'thank you' to everybody who has stepped up their recycling efforts recently. It makes good environmental and financial sense to recycle as much as we can."
All the paper that is collected in Stockport is recycled and turned into a new newspaper that could be on sale in your local shop in a matter of weeks. All aluminium collected gets recycled into new food and drink cans and glass is recycled into new glass jars or into building materials.
Until the Council is able to provide facilities for collecting plastic bottles from the kerbside in 2009/10, you can take them to one of the following collection points:
. Household Waste Recycling Centre, Adswood Road, Adswood
. Household Waste Recycling Centre, Bredbury Parkway
. Household Waste Recycling Centre, Torkington Depot, Torkington
. Household Waste Recycling Centre, Rosehill Depot, Railway Road
. Car park, Meadway, Bramhall
. Car park, Massie Street, Cheadle
. Sainsbury's Superstore, Wilmslow Road, Cheadle Royal
