New Paper and Card Recycling Service
| Published: 2nd April 2008 12:59 |
From Monday 7th April, Stockport Council will begin to roll out new blue wheelie bins for collecting paper, cardboard, Tetra Pak cartons, phone books and envelopes.
The new service is in response to residents' requests to be able to recycle cardboard at the doorstep, and is due to the high volume of recycling already collected throughout Stockport.
Due to the recent increase in recycling in Stockport we have decided to rollout 30,000 wheelie bins to further increase the amount residents can recycle. The wheelie bins for paper and card are going to selected homes in Hazel Grove, High Lane, Bramhall, Cheadle Hulme, Heald Green, Gatley, Offerton and Cheadle in April/May. These areas have been selected as they are 'high performing' areas where recycling crews are under most pressure."
Residents in these areas will be given a 180 litre blue wheelie bin along with an information leaflet explaining what can be recycled in the new bins.
The next rollout is planned for late 2009/10 when blue bins will be delivered to the rest of the borough to properties which are suitable for wheeled bins.
Recycling Officers will be holding information roadshows in Bramhall and Hazel Grove which are the first to receive the new bin. They take place at:
* Tuesday 1st April, 3pm-6pm: Hazel Grove Library, Beech Avenue
* Thursday 3rd April, 6pm-7.45pm: High Lane Library, Buxton Road
* Friday 4th April, 3pm-6pm: Bramhall Library, Bramhall Lane South
* Saturday 5th April, 10am-5pm: Meadway Recycling site, Bramhall
* Saturday 5th April, 10am-1pm (to be confirmed): J Sainsbury, London Road, Hazel Grove
* Saturday 5th April, 2pm-5pm: Co-op, London Road, Hazel Grove
Other roadshows will follow in Cheadle, Cheadle Hulme, Gatley and Heald Green before more blue bins are rolled out in May.
