Stockport residents are being encouraged to 'Recycle One More Thing' as part of a national campaign.
Recycle Now Week starts on Monday 2nd June and Stockport Council has organised a number of fun events to encourage people to think about items like aerosol cans or glass jars that they may not always recycle. The theme of the week is to 'Recycle One More Thing' and Community Recycling Officers will be on hand at recycling sites throughout the borough to offer advice about the massive range of items which can be recycled in Stockport.
Councillor Stuart Bodsworth, Executive Member for the Environment, said: "Stockport Council's recycling rates are among the highest in Greater Manchester but there is always something else we can recycle. From batteries to shampoo bottles to newspapers, so many everyday items can be recycled which will divert huge amounts of waste away from landfill.
"I would encourage everyone to visit their local recycling centre during this week and learn more about what they can do to help the environment."
Events will be held on the following dates:
. Monday 2nd June 11.00am to 2.00pm Brinnington, First House
. Tuesday 3rd June 11.00am to 2.00pm Massie Street car park, Cheadle
. Wednesday 4th June 11.00am to 2.00pm Heaton Moor Library, Thornfield Road
. Thursday 5th June 11.00am to 2.00pm Meadway car park, Bramhall
. Friday 6th June 11.00am to 2.00pm Etherow Country Park, Compstall
. Saturday 7th June 11.00am to 4.00pm Tesco Extra, Portwood
Visitors to the sites will also have the opportunity to enter a free prize draw when they pledge to 'Recycle One More Thing'. Prizes up for grabs include a pair of tickets to Tatton Park Flower Show, gardening materials from B&Q, composting books and reusable bags. Pure Radio will also be in attendance.
