Stockport's economy is one of the most competitive in the North West, according to a recent study by the Cardiff School of Management, which looks at economic competitiveness throughout the UK.
Stockport gained the third highest rating in Greater Manchester in the 'UK Competitiveness Index' and was also ranked the 7th highest in the whole of the North West.
The study looks at a wide range of economic information as well as political, cultural and social indicators including employment levels, educational attainment, business start up rates, productivity and pay levels.
Stockport's economy fared particularly well with its educated workforce, high level of employment and flourishing knowledge economy.
The UK Competitiveness Index was designed as an "integrated measure of competitiveness focusing on both the development and sustainability of businesses and the economic welfare of individuals".
Councillor Kevin Hogg, Executive Member for Regeneration, said: "These results underline the continued improvements that we have seen in Stockport in recent years as both a place to locate a successful business and a place that can offer a high quality of life."
"The competitiveness of Stockport's economy is clearly one of its biggest strengths and figures such as these prove that Stockport is a major driver in both the Greater Manchester and North West economies
