Residents from Avantage's Hollymere Extra Care scheme on New Grosvenor Road in Ellesmere Road have been floating on air this weekend by marking the Diamond Jubilee celebrations with a balloon race.
Each apartment resident at the complex was given a white, red or blue balloon to take part in the event. As everyone released the dozens of helium-filled balloons during their British-themed street party on 5th June, the sky became awash with the colours of the Union Jack. Residents at the four other Avantage sites in Cheshire - Hazelmere, Oakmere, Beechmere and Willowmere - also released balloons during their respective celebrations. Each balloon has a label with return instructions attached to it and the owners of the three that travel the furthest distance will win prizes, which are sponsored by Lovell, Countrywide Grounds Maintenance and Housing 21.
Alison Parry, facilities and events manager for Hollymere, said: "The balloon race was an incredible spectacle and a real highlight of our Jubilee celebrations! The wait is now on to see how far they will travel. Will any get as far as some of the Commonwealth countries which have no doubt been celebrating the Queen's Jubilee too? We'll have to wait and see!"
Hollymere offers safe and secure accommodation for people over 60 and provides additional support if required, such as access to 24 hour on-call staff, as well as a range of great facilities and social activities. It helps older people live independently in their own homes, with varying levels of support adapted to their changing situation.
