Each candidate was invited to submit a statement of no more than 300 words, and a photograph. Statements received are listed below in alphabetical order.

Statements are unedited. Photographs have all been reduced to 130 pixel width (depths may vary).

Gaskell, Derek (Liberal Democrats)

Derek GaskellSay yes to Neston in the local election on 7th May.

For too long, local residents have said that Neston is the poor relation to Ellesmere Port. Now it is also the poor relation to Chester. Your vote can help to change things. Our area is disadvantaged by being regarded as rural for some things and urban for others. It has to be one or the other, the Borough Council cannot have it both ways. Residents in the Neston area pay the same rates of Council Tax as the rest of the Borough and so we should be entitled to expect the same level of investment in our area as anywhere else.

I am offering myself for election as an experienced councillor. In fact I was the first Lib Dem councillor on the old Borough Council and served for ten years until the Council was dissolved. I was also one of the original Neston Town Councillors, serving as chairman of the then Planning and Environment committee. The Local Election should be about electing someone to serve the local area, not Party politics. It is my view that an elected Councillor should always be available to residents and to keep them informed about what is going on. That they should always promote the area they represent in order to improve it. To me this is all part and parcel of being a Councillor.

Please give me your vote and a few minutes of your time on 7th May and I will give four years of my time in return.

Khan, Declan (Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition)

Declan KhanI am a Neston resident with a young family. I work as an engineer based on the docks and am an active member of the union Unite. I believe that local services are vital for the health and well being of all the people of Neston and are worth fighting for. As a Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (TUSC) candidate I promise to:

• Fight cuts to council services and jobs. I reject the claim that some cuts are necessary.
• Use all powers available to councils to block cuts to local NHS services.
• Reject increases in council tax, rent and service charges to compensate for government cuts. Insist that in the first instance the council use reserves and set a budget that meets the needs of the local community and demand that the government makes up the shortfall.
• Ban fracking! Support action for a future where sustainability comes before profit.
• Fight to improve local bus and train services, especially to Arrow Park Hospital, Liverpool and Chester.
• Support all workers' struggles against the cuts, privatisation and making ordinary people pay for the crisis caused by the bankers and big businesses.

TUSC is the only party that completely rejects the punishing cuts imposed by the current government; cuts backed by the major parties including LABOUR! The austerity measures already taken and those planned have proven to be counter-productive, unjust and dangerous! Come on Neston, let's show CW&C council that it is time to take notice of local concerns, improve our services and act in the interests of the many not the few. Fight back and vote TUSC!

If in the meantime you have any questions about me or TUSC please do not hesitate to contact me on 07584034869.

Lloyd, Paul (Conservative)

Paul LloydI've lived in Neston all my life. I care passionately about our town. I'm determined to do all I can to stand up for our area on the Council. I currently run my own building company, and previously ran Drake convenience store in Neston.

If I am elected in May, these will be my top three priorities for Neston:

1. I will campaign for major improvements in local roads and pavements. These are the amenities we use every day and it's essential that pot holes are fixed, pavements are in a good condition and leaves are cleared on more rural walkways.

2. I will do all I can deliver the little improvements that make people feel proud of our town. This means keeping our urban areas and green spaces tidy and making sure that we have high quality facilities.

3. As a father of three, I know how important good youth services are. This will be a top priority for me as your Councillor.

Neston has been my home all my life. I'm proud to live here and raise my family here. But I believe it can be better still. If I'm elected on 7th May, I'll do all I can to stand up for our area, make it a better place to live and give us more cause to be proud of Neston.

Nicholls, Geoffrey (Green)

No statement received.

Williams, Andrew (Labour)

Andy WilliamsI was born and bred in Neston and live in the heart of the community. For the last 27 years I have worked as a chemist for a multinational company in Port Sunlight where I also became a union rep, this led to me joining the Labour Party and in 2011 I had the honour of being elected the Cheshire West and Chester councillor for Neston.

It has been a busy four years and in that time as well as being a member of the Appeals and Licensing committees, I have been involved in trying to improve facilities for the residents of Neston as the Chairman of the S106 committee which oversaw the town centre improvements. I have also, with funding from my member's budget, seen both the Ringway and the Stanney Fields parks facilities upgraded, contributed to last year's Ladies Club bicentenary, fought for and part funded a new crossing on Liverpool Road and supported many groups and schemes in Neston including the Nomads, CAN, the Library and local schools.

With your vote on May 7th I would like to continue to improve Neston, including better public transport, upgrades to other parks, improvements to the sports centre, cleaner streets, improved road surfaces and a solution to the area's continuing mosquito problem. I would also like to see better job prospects by looking at ways to encourage businesses to the Clayhill Estate and Neston's empty shops, but I also want people seeking employment to have the opportunity to do so at a job centre in Neston rather than have to travel to Ellesmere Port.

The Labour group on the council has a very good chance of taking control this year which, if elected, would give me and Neston a stronger voice within the Council.

Andy Williams has helped many people I know in Neston in his capacity as councillor and is a really true & well liked individual.

When it comes to local councillor's I believe the party they belong to is far less relevant than it is for a member of parliament. Andy has put Neston first for many years as a councillor and delivered so many good things for our town. He gets my vote !
