‘Tis the season to be thrifty, and to get the best bargains for the Christmas dinner this year head to Aldi.
So says which.co.uk as it launches a new price comparison shopping basket.
Filled with everyday basics, such as milk, butter and white potatoes, which.co.uk has compared the prices from the big supermarkets and found that shoppers can save more than a quarter on a typical shopping basket - providing the ingredients for money saving success at the check out.
Jess Ross, Editor, which.co.uk, says:
"If you're heading out to the supermarket this weekend to stock up for Christmas, you can save more than a quarter on your food bill. We looked at a basket of similar goods from all the big supermarkets, and our Aldi shopping basket cost considerably less than those of the top four.
"Clearly there is money to be saved in these credit-crunched times if people are prepared to shop around and choose some own brands."
| Supermarket | Cost of Shopping Basket (£) |
| Aldi | £38.04 |
| Netto | £38.30 |
| Lidl | £39.26 |
| Morrisons | £46.81 |
| Asda | £48.12 |
| Sainsbury | £49.07 |
| Tesco | £49.53 |
| Waitrose | £51.26 |
The basket will be available to all consumers at www.which.co.uk/supermarkets and updated monthly.
