Thanks to grants recently received, the Friends of Hadlow Road Station in Willaston have made a start on some clearance work.
With grant funding of £5,000 grant from Tesco Bags of Help and £2,000 from Postcode Local Trust a start has been made on clearing the vegetation that has been growing on the east section of the south platform at Hadlow Road Station since 1972.
The photo above shows the clearing of the foliage from the south platform top.
The photo above shows the cleared platform top although a couple of trees have yet to be removed.
Once the trees have been taken out the platform top will be prepared ready for grass seed to be sown. Planting of the rear embankment will be undertaken in Spring 2018 when trees and plants that encourage and support a diverse wildlife will be planted. This extended station platform will have benches fitted so that visitors can sit and enjoy the ambience of Hadlow Road Station as it was in the 1950s.
The pop-up café on Bank Holiday Sunday (27th August) was the busiest ever and as a result FHRS are considering the purchase of another flat grill so more bacon batches can be served.
The next café openings are 10th and 24th Sept and 15th and 29th Oct when we hope to see both regular and new customers.
All the various improvements completed, underway or planned at Hadlow Road Station are only possible through the active involvement of the FHRS Officers and volunteers who are improving the station for the benefit of future generations.
